Additional The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 2) Information

Percy Jackson’s seventh-grade year has been surprisingly quiet. Not a single monster has set foot on his New York prep-school campus. But when an innocent game of dodgeball among Percy and his classmates turns into a death match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants, things get . . . well, ugly. And the unexpected arrival of Percy’s friend Annabeth brings more bad news: the magical borders that protect Camp Half-Blood have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and unless a cure is found, the only safe haven for demigods will be destroyed.

In this fresh, funny, and hugely anticipated follow up to The Lightning Thief, Percy and his friends must journey into the Sea of Monsters to save their beloved camp. But first, Percy will discover a stunning new secret about his family -- one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon’s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

What Customers Say About The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 2):

I would suggest reading the 1st one before reading this one because there were some confusing parts. Rick Riordan did a great job of making the action scenes very exciting. I thought this book was an easy read and is very interesting if you wait a little for the story to develop, after the beginning everything will fall into place and the action will begin.

Percy is a demi god or a child of a god human creation. This forces him to go on a journey and retrieve something that will save the camp. The Sea of Monsters is the second book in the series and is a very entertaining and easy book to read.

As he goes on this adventure he will encounter hardships and challenges. All in all I would say this book is worth the time. They have a haven to retreat to when it is summertime because they get chased by monsters trying to eat them.

When Percy goes to the camp this year he sees that the tree that protects the camp has died.

An hour ago u were at page 2, now page 52. this book is totally awesome. It like sucks u in and u dont even realize it until u look at the page #.

If you don't know what that is, read the first book. Even though it was short I still recomend that people read it beacuase it still is an important peice of the series. The Sea of Monsters is a story where they need to save Camp Half Blood because Thalias tree is dying. I just want to say that I was a little disappointed. Read the second book to see why this is important. I wanted lots of excitment like the fist one, but it was so short that it didn't have enough. To me it was to short. I still like it though.

Plot twists are plenty, and the action is as high as Sears Tower. The adventures are just as interesting: the kids will certainly get a kick of the encounters of Scylla and Charybdis. The character Percy doesn't seem to develop until the very end (I thought he already did in the first book), but his and his friends' dialogue are very entertaining to read through. I didn't know if this sequel to "The Lightning Thief" would be equal or better than the original. Now on to Part Three.Grade: A I would say that "The Sea of Monsters" is a notch below to "The Lightning Thief", but it's not that bad, really. But as soon as I finished it, I was quite satisfied. The book is shorter, but the pace is faster and the humor is more quick-witted.

Much better plotting than in book one(although that's probably because it was copied from The Odyssey).-A very good emotional spectrum, getting the high points as well as the lows.-Again, quite a good ending.Overall: A good, dynamic read. It progresses slowly but steadily. The last few chapters are the very best in the book, really making up for a crummy first few.-Interesting situations, good pacing, and better characterization than in the previous book.-Exciting, fun, easy to read. The Sea of Monsters is a good read and a fair sequel to The Lightning Thief, with a similar tone and new territory.Negatives:-The narrative is sometimes distractingly pretend-colloquial.-The plot feels, generally, more contrived than the first book. 3.5 stars. It's not a bad thing, necessarily, but it's obvious that the author himself didn't have to make up as much in this book.-Percy goes about 200 pages through the book without once thinking of how his mom is doing, or what she will think after he was accused of blowing up half his school. It is very clearly a sequel(in the not-very-good sense), and draws plot points directly from The Odyssey. It's not the same Percy as in the previous book.-Like the previous book, the start is not terribly strong.Positives:-After a rough start, the book gets better.
